Natural Bodycare for Mums-To-Be - Belly Balm

If you're reading this, we know you care about what you put on your skin. There's no time where we become more aware about what goes on our bodies than when we are pregnant or become a Mum for the first time. Aside from all the foods, chemicals and activities we are told to avoid, there are also so many ingredients in standard skincare which can do more harm than good. It can be so hard to sift through all the product ingredient lists and make the best, natural and safe choice for you and baby.

This is exactly why we were compelled to create completely natural (honestly, all our balm ingredients are derived 100% from plants!) body products for pregnancy and Motherhood that you can actually trust. Using my training as a Naturopath and experience seeing what really works, we formulated Belly Balm with herbs which are not only safe, but ideal during pregnancy to help nourish your skin (and bubs), without the toxins.

Belly Balm

As the name suggests, Belly Balm has been formulated for use by pregnant Mums in the second and third trimester to help support your skin as it stretches. As your belly, hips and other areas grow, skin can become dry, itchy and prone to stretch marks. We found many stretch-mark creams and oils are petroleum jelly based, which are sticky to touch and don't actually nourish your skin, not to mention they are not bio-degradable.

The best type of skincare for pregnant bellies is natural oil based, so let's start with the oils we use in Belly Balm, a combination of Shea Butter, Olive, Apricot and Rosehip Oils. These oils are naturally high in antioxidants and essential fatty acids including Vitamins A and E, which are necessary for skin health. They help to create a natural barrier that boosts moisture in the skin. Rosehip oil has also been shown to reduce skin redness, so it's ideal for stretch-marks or inflamed skin.

The herbs we incorporate into our Belly Balm include Gotu kola, Lavender and Geranium, each known for their skin loving properties. Gotu kola has been shown to help improve and repair skin, and Lavender and Geranium are both anti-inflammatory, providing a sweet, gentle scent which is soothing and relaxing.

To use Belly Balm, warm a small amount in your hands and rub gently into areas of dry or stretching skin. Belly Balm can be used as an all-over general moisturiser, so you don't only need to stick to your belly. It's great for hips and thighs too, dry hands and tired feet! And if you're lucky enough to have an obliging partner or friend, Belly Balm can also be used as a relaxing massage oil. A little goes a long way.

Making a little daily ritual out of applying Belly Balm can be a lovely way to connect to your growing baby and changing body, knowing you are nourishing and nurturing both of you. You may also wish to continue using Belly Balm in the post-partum period to help rejuvenate skin appearance and show some love to your new Mama body.

Hydrating without being oily- it sinks into the skin leaving your belly to feel soft and smooth... and at 34 weeks pregnant that’s nothing to complain about! Plus no stretch marks...
